Textbook: English Composition and Grammar – John E. Warriner

The purpose of this course is tripartite:  a) read, discuss and analyze through composition the classic literature of Western civilization from Cervantes to Melville; b) read, discuss and analyze the form and structure of poetry; c) to build an extensive and sophisticated vocabulary in the English language and utilize words in their appropriate context through literature and composition of essays and speeches.  All three of these components focus on preparation for the AP English Literature exam in May of each year, with the incorporation of practice AP Test samples built into the curriculum of the course.
